Love, joy, peace

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Galatians 5:22–23

Love, joy, peace
The fruit of the Spirit consists of characteristics of the new life in the believer that are displayed through the working of the Holy Spirit. Today we want to reflect on the first three characteristics:

o Love for the Lord Jesus is shown in obedience, as He Himself says, “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15). We find the motive for this in 1 John 4:19: “We love Him because He first loved us.” Our love is also for our fellow Christians. Because they belong to the family of God, we are interested in them. We pray for them and help them as the Lord directs us.
o Joy brought about by the Spirit of God is not a carefree cheerfulness that springs from our nature or depends on good circumstances. No, Christian joy has its source in the Lord Jesus. That is why the apostle says, “Rejoice in the Lord always” (Philippians 4:4). The Ethiopian statesman who found faith in the Saviour sets an example for us: “And he went on his way rejoicing” (Acts 8:39).
o Peace in everyday life, despite the hustle and bustle, can only be produced in us by the Holy Spirit. He wants to lead us to cast all our cares on God in prayer, so that the peace of God may guard our hearts and minds. Furthermore, through the Spirit of God, it is possible to keep peace among believers without compromising the truth.

Today’s reading: Genesis 19:1-22 · Psalms 1:1-6

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
