The conviction that Job expressed in this...

For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth; and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God.
Job 19:25–26

The conviction that Job expressed in this Bible passage long ago is of the greatest interest to people of all times. He expresses his thoughts with an admirable certainty and confidence, for he says, “I know ...”. What did he know? First, that he had a living Saviour. Second, that this was a mighty and eternal Redeemer who would powerfully “stand … on the earth” in a future day. Third, that Job would rise again and see God.

This conviction is shared by all who have come to know Jesus Christ as their Saviour. In the New Testament, the certainty that Job had is reinforced. Christians thus have every reason to be even more certain and confident than Job was.

What is the reason for this? First, the Bible assures them that in the Lord Jesus Christ they “have redemption through His blood” (Ephesians 1:7). Eternal salvation is based on the fact that Jesus Christ died and rose again for us. The Gospels testify to this, as do many other passages in the New Testament.

Second, at the ascension of Jesus, the disciples receive the promise: “This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11). So Jesus Christ will again set foot on this earth in the future.

Thirdly, Jesus Himself says that everyone who believes in Him has eternal life and thus a wonderful future: “I will raise him up at the last day” (John 6:40). All those who have entrusted themselves to Jesus during their lifetime and belong to Him will then see Him.

Today’s reading: Genesis 29:1-14 · Psalms 15:1-5

GOD PROMOTES

When God set out to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt, it was to take them out of captivity and bondage and to lift them up. God has come to take you out of your current location in the miry clay to your promised land - a land flowing with milk and honey. This simply tells us that the God of Abraham, Isaac...More

TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD 1

One major undoing of modern civilized society is an abounding generation of untrained children. This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More

A LIBERAL HEART?

Those who never give will continue to beg, if you desire to...More

Hebrews 11:24-28

Author Zora Neale Hurston wrote a book titled Moses, Man of the Mountain. Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song. She reflected...More
