The reliability of the Bible

These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.
1 John 5:13

The reliability of the Bible
I have applied for a job at a company in our town. After the interview, I don’t hear anything at all. Then one day my neighbour who works there tells me, “You will get this job, the boss has spoken positively about you.” I start to get new hope.

The next day, another employee approaches me and says, “This position is probably reserved for someone else – that’s why you haven’t heard anything yet.” My great expectation fades again. First, I am full of hope, then full of doubt.

Finally, I receive a letter from the company’s personnel department. I quickly open it, skim the lines and shout to my wife, “I got the job!” Instead of listening to those who gave me hope or discouraged me, I would have been better off waiting for the HR manager’s confirmation.

Often, we are unsettled by the different opinions of those around us or the changing feelings of our hearts. So, the question arises: Where do we find clear orientation today? In the written Word of God! What is written there is true and reliable. This also applies to salvation. In John 3:36 we read, “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life”. That is absolutely certain! That’s why we should believe the testimony of the Bible, so that doubts will disappear and give way to a firm certainty.

Today’s reading: Daniel 7:15-28 · Acts 2:14-24
