Gray Hawk (2)

In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
1 John 4:9

Gray Hawk (2)
Gray Hawk had heard what the preacher had said – and was apparently unimpressed.

But the next day he approached another missionary and asked, “Weren’t those all lies that we were told yesterday? Could God really love people who are so corrupt?” The missionary explained to him that God is “rich in mercy, because of His great love wherewith He has loved us”. Gray Hawk thought and then said, “But the great Father giving His Son – that was a lie, wasn’t it?” Again the missionary answered in the negative and explained to him that God proved His love by “sending His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him”. Immediately the next question came: “That God has prepared a beautiful place in heaven for such people, surely that was a lie?” The missionary denied that too and read out what Jesus Himself said: “I go to prepare a place for you. ... I will come again and receive you to Myself” (Ephesians 2:4; 1 John 4:9; John 14:2–3).

For a long time Gray Hawk was silent. Then he said, “If all this is true, then I also want to follow this path, to have this life.” At first it had seemed like a lie to him, then he had objections, but finally God’s Word struck him. He allowed himself to be convinced and he believed – and God changed him.

Yes, God can be trusted because “it is impossible for God to lie”. He showed us His love because “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”. This is true – even today! (Hebrews 6:18; Romans 5:8)

Today’s reading: Job 11:1-20 · Acts 8:26-40

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
