Tempted by the devil

Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time.
Luke 4:13

Tempted by the devil
What must it have been like for the Lord Jesus to spend 40 days in the wilderness and be tempted by Satan! During this time, the devil did everything to make Him stumble. Yet he found no foothold in Christ for his temptations because there is no sin in Him (1 John 3:5). Every attack of the enemy fell flat. He couldn’t sway Jesus from His complete submission to God’s will. He failed to shake His perfect trust in God’s love.

For 40 days and 40 nights the devil persisted! But in the end, he was defeated and had to leave the Lord Jesus. This shows that he had no weapon left. He had used his entire arsenal against Him. He had employed every temptation against Him: all in vain! When fighting for life and death, people only give up when they have used the last weapon to win. Surely that’s what the devil did. He tried everything but he remained unsuccessful. Thus he had to leave the field as a defeated foe.

The Lord Jesus didn’t argue with the devil. He simply relied on the Word of God. Because He always wanted to depend on God and obey Him, He used the Scriptures as the only guide for His behaviour. So He silenced the enemy every time with a portion from God’s Word.

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 40:1-12 · Romans 9:14-29

When You Have A Vision

I was not disobedient to the vision.' Acts 26:19 NIV

When God gives you a vision for your life, you need to know how to:

(1) Hold it. Your vision is governed by a time frame: If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.' (Habakkuk 2:3 NLT) Some of us can...More

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (113)

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, him my Father will honour.
John 12:25.26.
