When we come to the throne of grace...

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16

When we come to the throne of grace in prayer, we first receive mercy. It is often manifested in the Lord strengthening us inwardly. Then we also experience His grace, which helps us just at the right time. Two examples from the Bible illustrate this:

o When the disciples were struggling with strong headwinds on the Sea of Galilee, the Lord came to them in the fourth watch of the night. Initially, He encouraged the frightened disciples with words of mercy: “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” They experienced the timely help of His grace shortly after. When Jesus got into the boat with them, the wind ceased (Matthew 14:22–33).

o Mary and Martha sent word to the Lord that their brother Lazarus was sick. Surely Jesus would come soon and help! But the days passed, and Lazarus died. When the Lord Jesus came to the grieving sisters, He showed them His mercy through His compassion. He spoke comforting words to them and wept with them. Then they experienced the help of His grace: He raised Lazarus from the dead (John 11:1–44).

Let us be grateful for the mercy that the Lord Jesus shows us, to uplift and comfort us inwardly. His gracious help may not always come immediately – but never too late, for the Lord helps in due time.

Today’s reading: Judges 4:17-5:11 · 2 Corinthians 4:7-18

NEGATIVE LIVING

Life comprises of positive and negative elements. As a matter of necessity, it is not good for someone to opt for negative living. The fact that Jesus Christ was destined to die for the sin of the whole world does not exonerate Judas Iscariot from the evil that led him to the idea of betraying the King of Glory....More
