When King Ahab and his heathen wife,...

And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
1 Kings 18:21

When King Ahab and his heathen wife, Jezebel, ruled over Israel, the nation wavered through indecision between the idol Baal and the true God. At that time, the prophet Elijah took his stand courageously for God and His honour and called on the people to do likewise.
In our day too, we find people wavering between two opinions. One elderly lady once told us: "I don't want to go to heaven. I should have to work there, cleaning the Milky Way. I've done enough work in my life. I'd rather be in hell with my colleagues."
On the other hand, that same woman used to go to church to find rest and quiet and, believe it or not, to pray to God. What led to such divergent thinking? Clearly, false conceptions of heaven and hell played a part in her scornful statement. We can be sure that the devil is keen on promoting such thinking.
God tells us the truth concerning life beyond the grave in the Bible, His eternally valid Word. There we read that hell is definitely not a place of social enjoyment, but one of eternal torment. Heaven, by contrast, is the place of rest, happy fellowship and eternal joy (cf. ).
Let us therefore heed the urgent admonition of the Lord Jesus Christ: "No-one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other" (Matthew 6:24).
Today's reading: Ezekiel ch. 27

FALSE PROPHETS AND THEIR PROPHECIES-FOOLISH PROPHETS

The word of Jehovah came unto me, saying: Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say unto them that prophesy out of their own heart, Hear ye the word of Jehovah. Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow after their own spirit, and have seen nothing!...More

EVERYONE NEEDS A MIRACLE

Some years ago, I was invited to be the guest speaker at a garden party in an exclusive, highbrow residential area. Because I arrived at the venue quite early, I was made to sit for a while in the house of my host. The house was an exquisite parade of wealth and splendour. I had never seen such brazen display of...More

FOR CHRIST'S SAKE DON'T!

A negative change is generally abhorred by men. Everyone craves progress. We always desire to keep ascending the ladder of success. No one wants to make a u-turn in the journey of greatness. The greatest journey whose end has the greatest significance is the journey to Heaven. This journey is only made in Jesus...More
