A married couple...

It shall even be as when an hungry man dreameth, and, behold, he eateth; but he awaketh, and his soul is empty: or as when a thirsty man dreameth, and, behold, he drinketh; but he awaketh, and, behold, he is faint, and his soul hath appetite: so shall the multitude of all the nations be, that fight against mount Zion.
Isaiah 29:8

A married couple was visiting an orphanage in order to adopt a child. They were telling one boy, whom they chose, in glowing terms of their wonderful house and the toys and other good things they had to offer him. The small lad replied. "If you've only got for me what most other children also have, then I might just as well stay here."
"Well, what is it that you would really like to have?" asked the wife. - "I want you to love me," answered the boy.
That was it! Our hearts can never be satisfied by toys or any other material goods. Not even the greatest luxury can satisfy the human soul. Our hearts yearn for love and security. The boy had hit the nail on the head!
The Bible goes one step further, stating that, with regard to human beings, God "has put eternity in their hearts" (Ecclesiastes 3:11). That means that no even love and security in human relationships will give our hearts the true peace they need. Without God, that too would remain a "dream", from which we should awaken faint and still craving.
The deepest longing of our hearts can be satisfied only by God Himself, who created us and placed this longing in the human heart. It can be satisfied solely by returning to God through faith in Jesus Christ, from whom we have distanced ourselves.
Today's reading: 1 Timothy 3

However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
