Those with a good knowledge of Holy Scripture understand...

Pilate said to him (i.e. Jesus), What is truth? God our Saviour ... desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
John 18:38; 1 Timothy 2:3.4

Those with a good knowledge of Holy Scripture understand truth to be the divine yardstick by which absolutely everything can be assessed and judged as good or bad. The nature of every being, from God Himself via human beings and angels to demons and Satan, and of every deed, word or thought can be subjected to this test. As it is God's measure, people's differing opinions are left aside. His judgment is correct and final.

God would dearly like us human beings to apply His judgment of things in preference to our own. But can we attain to His wisdom? Of course, we shall never do so fully, but by accepting His offer of salvation in His Son, Jesus Christ, we take the first step. Being born again, we receive eternal life and are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, who, the Lord Jesus promised, "will guide you into all truth" (John 16:13). We proceed to learn gradually through the Word of God what pleases and displeases Him. We judge ourselves in this light and, putting away what we must condemn, conduct ourselves in a godly manner. This is the sanctifying effect of the truth (cf. John 17:17).

The Lord Jesus said of Himself, "I ... am the truth" (John 14:6). His sinless life met God's standard perfectly. He came to "bear witness to the truth" - the words that prompted Pilate's question.

To know the truth, we must contemplate Christ and keep His Word.

Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 30:1-14 · Revelation 16:12-21

On the Day of Judgment, many whose names were in earth's halls of fame will be shown the way to the eternal lake of fire...More

BE STRONG

You don't charge someone to be strong if there is no task to be performed or if pressure is not required, either for motion or putting up resistance against an opposing force. In the physical realm, mere movement requires strength. This explains why a sick person or a person just recovering from an ailment finds it...More

God often proves to be other than people think...

Acts 5:4-5

God often proves to be other than people think. Here, for example, death struck a man suddenly for lying before God. Is God therefore severe, when he makes use of His power unreservedly towards the weak?
Let us first briefly examine what preceded this judgment. Holy zeal for the...More
