The origin of the universe

Lord, you are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them.

By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things that are visible.

Acts 4: 24; Hebrews 11: 3.

The origin of the universe
Since time immemorial the origin of the world, of living beings, particularly mankind, has preoccupied people's minds. In the course of the last centuries many theories have been developed to exclude the Creator from it. While we admit that certain mutations are probable, who could have formed the first element of this universe and given it the capacity to diversify itself so prodigiously? Let us modestly confess that it is totally inexplicable through human reasoning.

In the first chapter of Genesis God reveals in a simple yet majestic narrative the process of His work of creation. He spoke, and it was done. He it was who created from nothing. The believer, humbly taking his place before his Creator, believes in all simplicity what God achieved through His word.

This God, who created the universe simply by the power of His word, this God, who is infinite in His greatness, is also infinite in his love. . If we believe what God has stated concerning His work of creation, we must also believe Him regarding the work of redemption that delivers us from the bondage of sin. If we understand by faith that the worlds were formed by the word of God, then it is equally by faith that we can be saved.

Today‘s reading: Deuteronomy 14: 1 - 21 · Matthew 26: 17 - 30
