No-one

The sick man answered him, Sir, I have no man.

No-one gave him anything.

Greater love has no-one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.

John 5: 7; Luke 15: 16; John 15: 13.

No-one
In all three verses quoted above we find the thought of no-one being available.

The first quotation concerned an invalid who had not found anyone to help him for 38 years. Then the Lord Jesus came to his aid.

In the second passage of Scripture a young man had got far away from his parental home and from God and was enjoying life to the full, but suddenly fell into a wretched condition, and no-one was there to help him. But then he came to his senses and returned. Isn't that the case with many today? During their life they have ignored God, seeking enjoyment apart from Him. Yet after much disappointment they felt lonely and misunderstood. Maybe you are ill, unemployed, without a family or a roof over your head, and desperate. No-one is interested or lends a helping hand. Where can you find help? Everyone has problems of his own and is not prepared to bother himself with those of other people. And the assistance of the social services is limited.

In the third verse from the Bible we find someone who is sincerely ready to take a personal interest and show sympathy and love: Jesus Christ. He knows each one personally and lovingly even gave His life for us. No-one has greater love than that! Jesus Christ loves you, too; He is waiting to save you. Tell Him your fears, worries and wrongdoings frankly. He is never indifferent, but will listen with interest to all that concerns you.

Today‘s reading: 2 Samuel 15: 30 - 16: 4 · 2 Samuel 2: 13 - 17

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
