During His life here on earth the Lord Jesus...

Christ also suffered for us. When he was reviled, did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously.
1 Peter 1: 21.23.

During His life here on earth the Lord Jesus suffered constantly from the opposition and hatred of His enemies. Their response to His acts of kindness was contempt and suspicion. When we think of the interrogations and the judicial trial that preceded the crucifixion, what a flood of wickedness and injustice there was, as they sought false witness to justify a sentence of death!

In all this our Lord remained subject to the will of God. Despite having legions of angels at His disposal, He offered no resistance and did not defend Himself. Trusting fully in His God, He endured everything quietly and patiently. The conduct and the entire walk in the life of the one perfect Man, in accordance with God's thoughts, calls forth our wonder. He not only left the judgment of what befell Him to God, but committed Himself "to him who judges righteously." What an example for us!

The time came, however, for the Lord to lay down His life on the cross as the Lamb of God. There God's righteous judgment fell upon Him, for our sins were laid upon Him, and God could not reduce the judgment that we deserved in any way, not even for His own beloved Son!

"He trusted in God", the scoffers exclaimed. (He had indeed done so all His life.) . Not then, when He hung on the cross, but after accomplishing the work of redemption God delivered Him from death as the proof that He fully acknowledged that work on the cross of Calvary.

Today‘s reading: 2 Kings 12: 1 - 17 · John 21: 15 - 25

THE SACRIFICES IN THE BOOK OF NUMBERS (8)

GOD HAS A SUBSTITUTE

One thing we need to learn in today's reading is that God always has a substitute. If God says He wants you, rejoice! However, be careful, because even as He is choosing you, He has already prepared a substitute.
