Children with a mind of their own (3)

To what shall I liken this generation? It is like children. but wisdom is justified by her children.
Matthew 11: 16.19.

Children with a mind of their own (3)
The Lord Jesus had started speaking by referring to self-willed children and comparing His listeners with them. He finished by speaking of other children: children of wisdom.

In the parable the children had their own ideas. When confronted with Jesus Christ, they had rejected Him, because He did not comply with their expectations. The children of wisdom, on the other hand, had accepted His judgment of them, confessed their sin to Him and thus confirmed the truth and wisdom of His words. Don't people today fall into these two groups?

There are those who speak of Jesus as a morally exemplary teacher. But when He says, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me", they refuse this claim, as also the verse: "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (; Acts 4: 12). They didn't see that as the way to God.

Others, however, submit to the Lord Jesus' judgment. They admit their failings, their guilt and their sins and accept Him as their Saviour. They agree with His words. They are the ones who confirm and justify wisdom. Only those who rely truly and honestly on Jesus Christ, who know Him and accept Him as He is and as the Bible presents Him, become children of wisdom and belong to Him.

What shall the baptized for the dead do if those that are baptized rise not at all? Why also are they baptized for them?
(1 Corinthians 15:29)

Who are "the dead," and who are those "baptized for the dead"? The next verse gives an important hint: "Why do we also endanger ourselves every...More
