The lost child (1)

I have even called you by your name. I am the LORD, and there is no other; there is no God besides me.
Isaiah 45:4.5.

The lost child (1)
The scene is China towards the end of 1989. In the snow and icy wind the colporteur Xi is selling Bibles and gospels. In the mountainous country of the province of Gansu he goes from village to village. When he arrives in the final village of his tour, he notices at once that something is wrong. People are standing together in small groups.

"Good morning, everybody. I have some good news for you all."

"Be quiet, will you? We have only bad news here: a baby has been stolen here today."

This problem is well-known: bandits steal babies to sell them in the towns to rich couples who have no children of their own.

"Can I speak to the parents?" asks Xi.

"Be off! We don't need you here."

"Please take me to them. Maybe I can help them."

They lead him to the hut of the unhappy parents.

"I understand your despair. But I know someone who can help you: it is the living God. I'd like to pray to Him for you." And he starts to pray; "O God, who knows all and can do anything, we pray that you will bring back the missing child. Amen!"

"Be quiet, and go away!" shouts the father, "We have prayed to our gods in vain. Can your God do more?"

They push the Christian out violently and chase him out of the village.

(to be concluded tomorrow)

Today's reading: Daniel 12:1-13 · Acts 4:32-37

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, ...

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, says to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni, which means Teacher. Jesus says to her, Touch Me not, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I ascend to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.

We have not a high priest not able to sympathize with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart.

PROVOKING POSITIVE CHANGE

Change is one event that is constant in life. Change denotes movement from one state to another. There are two categories of change: positive and negative. Due to the fact that change can either be positive or negative, Africans would say: "Change is good for the poor but bad for the rich". Change in life is...More
