The New Testament in Brief (10)—Ephesians

Blessed be the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.
Ephesians 1:3 NKJV

The New Testament in Brief (10)—Ephesians
Ephesians, meaning “one desire,” is an epistle with no reproofs. It declares in fullest terms the grand counsels of God concerning the saints of God in this present dispensation of grace. It gives their present spiritual blessings in the heavenly places in Christ and their position “in Christ.” The believers “sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (2:6). Christ, in accordance with the glory of His person and the infinite virtue of His work, is the decreed center of the blessing of the universe. “In Him” we have obtained an inheritance. He is seated on His Father’s throne and there represents us perfectly. Jewish and Gentile believers form “one body” united to Christ the Head in glory.

As well as being the body of Christ, the Church is seen as the household of God, a building growing to a holy temple in the Lord for a habitation of God; and as eventually presented to Christ as a bride fitted for her Husband. Such truths were not known or prophesied of in former ages, but are now revealed through the apostles and New Testament prophets.

Our conflict also is seen to be “in the heavenly places” (6:12) against spiritual hosts of wickedness, satanic powers engaged in opposing our discernment and enjoyment of the truth as to our rightful heavenly possessions. No book is more important than Ephesians as regards to cultivating a character conformable to Christ in the proper home of our souls, heaven itself.

-- L. M. Grant

Yes, blessed is our portion! blessed He,

Who, in His grace before the world began,
Did set on us His love sovereign and free,
On us the sinful heirs of dying man.

FALSE PROPHETS AND THEIR PROPHECIES-THE FALSE PROPHET

And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the...More

EVERYONE NEEDS A MIRACLE

Some years ago, I was invited to be the guest speaker at a garden party in an exclusive, highbrow residential area. Because I arrived at the venue quite early, I was made to sit for a while in the house of my host. The house was an exquisite parade of wealth and splendour. I had never seen such brazen display of...More

PRAY UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS

that when he cried to the Lord, the Lord healed him. This is another testimony of someone who believed in the God that answers prayers. May prayer for someone using this devotional is that as you cry unto God today, He will answer you as He answered Hannah, Jabez and Elijah in Jesus'...More

The bankruptcy that saves

None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him - for the redemption of their souls is costly, and it shall cease for ever.

You were not redeemed with silver or gold from your aimless conduct but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and...More
