There are four gospels...

You search the scriptures, and these are they which testify of me.
John 5:39.

There are four gospels, four books of the Bible that describe the life of Jesus Christ from different aspects. Although they differ, each one corresponds in every detail to God's particular purpose.

In Matthew's gospel we see Jesus Christ as the Messiah, the Son of Abraham and the Son of David. This means that He is the promised Redeemer, who will save people from their sins and establish His reign of peace on earth. Under the leading of the Spirit of God Matthew did not follow the historical chronology of events but pieces together incidents that happened at different times.

Mark shows us Jesus Christ as the servant, preacher and teacher, who worked by day and prayed by night.

Mark describes what He did and how He did it. In contrast to Matthew and Luke, Mark omits Jesus' genealogy. For a servant it is irrelevant. He therefore sketches the Lord Jesus' wonderful service in its historical order.

Luke portrays Jesus Christ as the true, perfect Man. His genealogy therefore goes back to Adam, the first human being. Here we see just how close Jesus was to us humans, so as to understand our situation from experience, to help us, redeem us, to bring us into fellowship with God and grant us joy.

John's gospel, on the other hand, first directs our attention to eternity. The Holy Spirit writes of the Son of God: He is the Word, eternal life, the true God. He is the Son who was from eternity but was rejected by the Jews. John reveals the great glory of the Son of God and shows repeatedly how He dealt graciously and personally with each individual sinner.

Four gospels, but one subject: Jesus Christ!

Today's reading: 1 Chronicles 25:1-31 · 1 Timothy 2:8-15

OFFENDED IN CHRIST?

The Christian race must be run with lots of patience or else it will be bungled midway. If you are inpatient with Gods timing, you will not only get into trouble but may not be able to finish the race. A good number of backsliders derailed from their heavenly track because of impatience. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus...More

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And...

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him.
(Genesis 18:1)

The spiritual elevation of Abraham in Genesis 18 and 19 is something very peculiar. He seems...More

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More
