October 26, 2015 Today's reading: Numbers 9 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3 In his foreword to his translation of the Bible, John Piscator (1546-1625) commented on this prayer of the Lord Jesus to His Father as follows: The prayer teaches us that eternal salvation comes from the knowledge of the one true God and of the Mediator between God and man, Jesus Christ. Nobody can attain this knowledge by himself, but only through the Word of God, Holy Scripture. God has revealed Himself to man in His infinite power, wisdom and grace in creation. But man has not that enlightened understanding, so that he can appreciate God's virtues. Instead of recognising who God is and giving Him all due honour, he has been deceived into reducing God's lofty, infinite majesty to our own level and state. Nor has he shrunk from representing Him in images of a physical, earthly nature (cf. ). Man's conscience convicts him of offending, insulting and enangering God in His noble, holy majesty with many grave sins. Therefore he deserves eternal condemnation from Him as the righteous, stern Judge. To be freed from the accusations of one's conscience, it is necessary to believe in the one Mediator between God and man. It is only on the basis of His suffering and death that we can be reconciled to God and stand in His grace and favour. This knowledge is founded on Holy Scripture, which testifies of Christ the Redeemer. |

Open Heavens for Sunday, March 2, 2014 by Pastor E.A Adeboye NEGATIVE LIVING Life comprises of positive and negative elements. As a matter of necessity, it is not good for someone to opt for negative living. The fact that Jesus Christ was destined to die for the sin of the whole world does not exonerate Judas Iscariot from the evil that led him to the idea of betraying the King of Glory....More |
