The Christian family

But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Joshua 24:15

The Christian family
Today we would like to apply two characteristics of the family of God to the Christian family.

1. The Lord Jesus said to His disciples, “In My Father’s house are many mansions” (John 14:2). Soon He will come again and take all God’s children to where they will be at home forever.

Therefore, the Christian family should also be a real home. Do we look forward to going home after work? Do we enjoy being there? There are people who never seem to be at home. Do they feel uncomfortable there because there is only trouble and quarrelling? As parents, we have the task of creating a home for our children where they like to be. At home, they should find a Christian atmosphere that provides a balance to the world in which they spend a large part of their days.

2. In 1 John 3:1 we read, “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!” Why does our God and Father love us? Because we are his children!

The Christian family should also be a place where unconditional love reigns. What about our relationship with our children? Do we favour one over the other because we like them better? Children quickly pick up on such distinctions. This raises the question: Why do we love our children? The biblical answer is simple: because they are our children!

Today’s reading: Isaiah 3:16-4:6 · Acts 21:26-40

What shall the baptized for the dead do if those that are baptized rise not at all? Why also are they baptized for them?
(1 Corinthians 15:29)

Who are "the dead," and who are those "baptized for the dead"? The next verse gives an important hint: "Why do we also endanger ourselves every...More

Going from childhood to adulthood is a transition that requires a lot of wisdom and love. Your teen will feel and behave child-like sometimes, and adult-like other times. Your job is to realize that whatever their status, they will become a man (woman)...More
