In great distress

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
Isaiah 43:2

In great distress
Suddenly it was there, this feeling of illness. You really didn’t feel well. Strange symptoms began to appear. Many unpleasant medical examinations followed. Evaluations and laboratory results had to be waited for. Then came the shocking diagnosis of a serious, incurable disease. This news hit you like a hard hammer blow.

You are still deeply unsettled. You didn’t expect such a result. The shock is followed by an emotional crisis. Sadness and anxiety seize you. You have never been so aware of the uncertainty of life. Your trust in God is suddenly put to the test.

But there is a light that desires to penetrate your darkness. In your suffering, there is One who wants to be with you, who loves and understands you. It is the Lord Jesus! He knows you well and knows about your illness and your symptoms. He also understands your turbulent emotions. He deeply sympathises with you.

Please take refuge in Him. Pour out your burdened heart to Him in prayer and tell Him what troubles you. Look up to Him in faith: He has brought rest to many who suffer, has bound up wounds and has relieved pain. Trust in Him!

You need a great deal of grace and strength to bear this burden. Let the Lord Jesus give you both. Don’t shut yourself off from Him, because He will speak to you, comfort you and help you.

Today’s reading: Haggai 2:1-14 · Mark 11:20-33

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Always Be Humble

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
