Abram had rescued his nephew Lot...

Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.
Genesis 15:1

Abram had rescued his nephew Lot, who had been taken prisoner by a hostile army with the inhabitants of Sodom. Afterward, Abram had declined the reward offered by the King of Sodom, who wanted to give him the entire spoils of the campaign. After these events, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

o Abram did not need to fear retribution from the hostile forces because God was his shield, providing him with complete protection.

o Abram suffered no loss because he did not accept the spoils of war. God could and would give him much more because He was his very great reward.

As believing Christians, we, in a figurative sense, have the same experiences as Abram. When we choose to follow the Lord Jesus, we inevitably enter into conflict with a world that wants nothing to do with Christ:

o Taking a stand for our Lord draws the world’s enmity, but we need not fear its resistance. God will protect us and keep us standing in faith.

o Remaining faithful to our Lord may mean rejecting certain offers from the world, yet the disadvantages we experience are nothing compared to the joy God gives us in the process.

Today’s reading: Exodus 40:17-38 · Luke 19:11-27

NO FOOD FOR THE LAZY MAN

Laziness is not a Christian virtue in any way. Our Lord Jesus Christ made this clear by His lifestyle of hard work while here on earth. A lifestyle of laziness is outrightly rejected in Scriptures typified by today's Bible reading. It is amazing that some people are still expecting God to rain manna on earth! It does...More
