Living as God desires

Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps.
1 Peter 2:21

Living as God desires
The Lord Jesus didn’t just come to earth to die on the cross for lost people. He also lived here for over 30 years to set an example for a life that pleases God. From the four gospels, we learn how Jesus honoured God in various situations through His behaviour and words:

o As a child, Jesus was obedient to His parents (Luke 2:51). Thus He is the great example for every child to obey and honour father and mother.

o He worked for many years as a carpenter (Mark 6:3). He is an example to us that we should work with our own hands to earn our living and faithfully fulfil our daily duties.

o Before a busy day of work, the Lord withdrew to be alone with His heavenly Father, to pray to Him, and to be instructed by Him (Mark 1:35; Isaiah 50:4). If we imitate Him by taking enough time in the morning for Bible reading and prayer, our hectic everyday life will not overwhelm us.

o Because the Lord Jesus testified to the truth, He was rejected and eventually killed (John 8:40). Are we also willing to stand up for the truth and accept possible negative consequences?

o At the cross, Jesus prayed for His enemies, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do” (Luke 23:34). He shows believers how kindly they should treat people who hate and persecute them. He attributes ignorance to them and wishes them the best.

Today’s reading: Lamentations 3:1-24 · Psalms 44:9-17
