The condition of the believer

I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called.
Ephesians 4:1

The condition of the believer
The “condition” of a believing Christian refers to the current state of his spiritual life. His spiritual condition is made visible through his behaviour.

In today’s verse, we read that a Christian should live according to his calling. God has placed him in a perfect position and now expects behaviour that aligns with it. He should behave at all times as befitting a child of God. It is God’s will that the condition of the believer matches his position. The Holy Spirit, who dwells in every redeemed individual, constantly works in this direction.

Unfortunately, it can happen that someone who has repented and accepted the Lord Jesus as his Saviour does not behave like a genuine believer. Although he possesses new life, little to nothing of it is seen in his behaviour. He doesn’t behave like a child of God. Thus, he reveals a poor spiritual condition.

This is shameful. It requires humility regarding this deplorable condition and a correction in his behaviour. However, the failure of a believer doesn’t change his position. He remains a child of the heavenly Father because his position before God doesn’t depend on his behaviour but is based on the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus on the cross. If he is aware of this fact, he will not sin thoughtlessly.

Today’s reading: Judges 13:11-25 · 2 Corinthians 12:1-10

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, ...

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, says to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni, which means Teacher. Jesus says to her, Touch Me not, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I ascend to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.

We have not a high priest not able to sympathize with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart.

PROVOKING POSITIVE CHANGE

Change is one event that is constant in life. Change denotes movement from one state to another. There are two categories of change: positive and negative. Due to the fact that change can either be positive or negative, Africans would say: "Change is good for the poor but bad for the rich". Change in life is...More
