Haste (2)

So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
James 1:19

Haste (2)
The Bible not only warns us against negative haste but also shows us that it is appropriate to act quickly in a positive sense.

In today’s Bible verse, James urges us to be quick to listen. The context of the chapter makes it clear that this means being willing to listen to God’s Word. How about us? Do we willingly open our ears to the voice of the Lord?

One day, 99-year-old Abraham received a visit from God. How he rejoiced! “So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah and said, ‘Quickly, make ready measures of fine meal; knead it and make cakes’” (Genesis 18:6). Do we also have this haste when it comes to the Lord’s matters? Are we quick and eager because we want to please Him?

When Abraham’s servant met Rebekah he asked her, “Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher.” So she quickly let her pitcher down to her hands and gave him a drink. Afterwards, she hurried to give water to his camels as well (Genesis 24:17–20). Are we just as ready to immediately help those who ask us? Or do we hesitate because it is inconvenient for us?

Martha said to her sister, “The Teacher has come and is calling for you”. So Mary quickly arose and went to Him (John 11:28–32). How do we react when a need arises? Do we also seek contact with the Lord as quickly as possible to pour out our hearts before Him?

Today’s reading: 2 Chronicles 12:1-16 · Revelation 2:12-17

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, says to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni, which means Teacher. Jesus says to her, Touch Me not, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I ascend to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.

We have not a high priest not able to sympathize with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart.

PROVOKING POSITIVE CHANGE

Change is one event that is constant in life. Change denotes movement from one state to another. There are two categories of change: positive and negative. Due to the fact that change can either be positive or negative, Africans would say: "Change is good for the poor but bad for the rich". Change in life is...More
