This promise that the Lord Jesus Christ made to His...

I will pray the Father, and he will give you another helper, that he may abide with you for ever - the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him.
John 14:16.17

This promise that the Lord Jesus Christ made to His disciples was fulfilled a few weeks later at Pentecost in Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit came down to earth as a Person to dwell in individual believers and in the church as if in a temple. (cf. Acts 2:1; 1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19).

Jesus had described the Holy Spirit as "power from on high" (Luke 24:49). This power became visible, when the disciples courageously confessed their risen Lord despite all the resistance (cf. Acts 4:8).

The Holy Spirit is, however, more than just a power. Many passages in the Bible state that He speaks, testifies, institutes and sends God's servants out, thus proving that the Holy Spirit is a Person.

Just as the Holy Spirit actively participated in the creation of the world, so, too, is He active in the "new creation", i.e. when someone is "born again" and receives eternal life through faith (cf. Genesis 1:2; 2 Corinthians 5:17; John 3:5-8.16).

The individual books of the Bible are "inspired", i.e. given by God through His Spirit. And it is the Holy Spirit who leads us into "all truth", in order to give us an understanding of God's thoughts (cf. 2 Timothy 3:16.17; 2 Peter 1:21: John 16:13.14).

The Holy Spirit wishes to equip believers with moral strength, wisdom, and dignity, as they lead their lives. And He gives them the assurance that they are God's children (Galatians 5:16; 22; Romans 8:16). Do you yourself possess this assurance, this indwelling testimony of the Holy Spirit?

Today's reading: Lamentations 2:1-10 · Psalm 43:1-5

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, says to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni, which means Teacher. Jesus says to her, Touch Me not, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I ascend to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.

We have not a high priest not able to sympathize with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart.

PROVOKING POSITIVE CHANGE

Change is one event that is constant in life. Change denotes movement from one state to another. There are two categories of change: positive and negative. Due to the fact that change can either be positive or negative, Africans would say: "Change is good for the poor but bad for the rich". Change in life is...More
