The compassion of Jesus

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation.

His compassions fail not. They are new every morning.

2 Corinthians 1: 3.4; Lamentations 3: 22.23.

The compassion of Jesus
Frederick Booth-Tucker (1853 - 1929) was a member of the Salvation Army, first in India, then in America and finally in Great Britain. His first wife died during an epidemic of cholera. He re-married and had nine children, three of whom died in infancy. One evening after preaching on the compassion of Jesus, a listener said to him: "If your wife had died, like mine, and your children wept, wanting their mother back, you couldn't speak of an understanding, compassionate God of love!"

A few days later the preacher's second wife lost her life in a railway accident, leaving him behind with six children. Towards the end of the funeral service, standing before the coffin, Booth turned to those present and said: "The other day someone told me that if my wife died, I could not proclaim that Jesus Christ is full of compassion. If that man is here present, I should like to tell him that Christ is replying at this very moment to each of my needs. My sorrow is immense, but today He is my consolation." The man in question was indeed there. He came and knelt before the coffin to permit Booth to tell him who Jesus Christ is for whoever believes.

Jesus alone is able to sympathise with our sorrow. "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, .
